It is through the photosynthesis process that trees absorb carbon dioxide found in the atmosphere to convert light energy into chemical energy. The carbon dioxide having been absorbed is then stored into the organic matter as carbon while the oxygen is released into the atmosphere. When trees are eventually cut the carbon that had been sequestered so far combines with atoms of oxygen to form carbon dioxide (CO2), thus releasing it back into the atmosphere.
The carbon dioxide that we sell is stored in a sustainable forest developped by the different partners and divisions of Proxyfolia. Our forest is carefully managed and great care is taken so as to ensure carbon sequestration in the best possible conditions and so as to preserve the natural environment. The carbon title can be transferred, sold or rented by the client during the storage period and until the title is emitted.
Several scientific studies have shown over the past few years that forests play a major role in CO2 absorption and sequestration as trees can store carbon in their stems as well as in the soil they grow on for many decades and centuries. Each year it is almost 4.8 billions of tons of CO2 that are being removed from the atmosphere by tropical forest ecosystems. Beside it is estimated by scientists that approximately 1/5th of the CO2 produced by the combustion of fossil fuels is removed from the atmosphere by forests ecosystems. Forest carbon storage therefore appears as the best option in terms of sustainability.
